School closed due to weather concerns

With Tropical Storm Gordon expected to dead-center on Southwest Mississippi late tonight, the following schools have announced they will be closed Wednesday:

  • Brookhaven School District
  • Lincoln County School District
  • Copiah County School District (Wesson)
  • Brookhaven Academy
  • Mississippi School of the Arts
  • Lawrence County School District
  • Copiah-Lincoln Community College
  • Southwest Mississippi Community College
  • The Reading Nook

The Franklin County School District will start classes at 9 a.m.

MSA plans to be closed only Wednesday morning, and plans to reopen for afternoon classes as long as the campus has electricity and teachers are able to come in. The public schools will meet to decide their reopening.

Co-Lin and Southwest plan to reopen Thursday, weather permitting. Co-Lin’s residence halls will remain open for students living on-campus. Co-Lin’s cafeteria will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., from 11 a.m. to noon and from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Grill will be closed.
