Lawrence County again welcomes an out-of-district opponent to Monticello Friday night when the Cougars host the Bay High Tigers for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Lawrence County (2-1) is coming off a 17-0 home win over the Raleigh Lions. Sophomore running back Quincy Lewis ran for 40 yards on three carries and scored the lone rushing touchdown for the Cougars in their win over Raleigh. Junior Kylan Cooper — the leading rusher for Lawrence County — added 76 yards on 13 carries.

Sophomore quarterback Haden Mullins completed 3-of-9 passes for 91 yards and one touchdown in the Raleigh win. His scoring throw to tight end Brian Bogan was the first touchdown through the air for Lawrence County this season.

Kicker Jose Gonzales also hit his first field goal of the season when he knocked in a 27-yarder. Senior defensive back Jerome Dudley picked off the Raleigh quarterback for his second interception of the season.

The Tigers of Bay High (0-3) — coached by Benji Foreman — have losses to West Harrison, Lumberton and Long Beach.

Last season the Cougars made the 140-mile drive to Bay St. Louis and escaped with a 40-37 win in overtime. The Tigers are currently mired in an 18-game losing streak.
