The Bogue Chitto Bobcats (1-3) will look to make it two wins in a row when they travel to Salem tonight.

Bobcat coach Gareth Sartin sees a much-improved Salem team that has weapons in their skill positions.

“Their quarterback is the first guy that stands out to you, he’s got good size and really is a threat on every play due to his ability to run and throw,” said Sartin.

Senior signal caller Daquarius Redmond has only thrown for two touchdowns this season, but he’s tied for the team lead with 245 yards rushing.

Senior running back Xavion Bridges is the other cog in the Salem offensive machine. Bridges has run for 245 yards on 36 carries.

Bogue Chitto is coming off of a 44-26 whipping of Mount Olive.

In that win Bobcat junior quarterback Shaw King finished a perfect 9-for-9 passing for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bogue Chitto defense held Mount Olive to one score for most of the night until the Pirates capitalized on a few scoring opportunities late in the game.

To beat Salem, Sartin says his team must tackle well in the open field.

“We’re going to have to tackle well in space, where Salem can hurt you is getting to the edge and using their speed to run by you,” said Sartin.

Salem is led by first-year head coach Chris McCallum. McCallum has previously served as the head baseball coach at the school. He and Sartin have history together as their fathers were both coaches together at Franklinton, Louisiana early in their careers.

The cat fight is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
