NEW ORLEANS — A cat knocked out power to thousands of customers in the New Orleans area Monday morning.

According to Entergy, the largest outages were in Mid-City, Central City and Broadmoor, affecting more than 7,500 customers. The outage also cut off power to traffic lights across the city, according to several New Orleans news outlets.

“A cat got into a substation that feeds parts of Uptown, Central City, Mid-City and the CBD, and caused a flash when it came into contact with our equipment,” the utility company said at 9:30 a.m.

By 10 a.m., power had been restored to all but 350 customers. Entergy estimates all power should be restored by 11:30 a.m.

Entergy did not provide information on the cat’s condition.
