Bales of hay left on I-55 Sunday night caused at least two wrecks and one injury, authorities said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol, New Sight Volunteer Fire Department, Mississippi Department of Transportation and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scattered obstructions on the interstate around the 48-mile marker, said MHP Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry. About five or six round hay bales were blocking the interstate.
The right lane of northbound I-55 was closed shortly before 9 p.m. because of the accidents and was reopened at 10:16 p.m.
A female subject was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center with minor injuries. Three vehicles were involved in the two collisions.
