Panthers sweep, Cougars split

Here is a recap of how area teams faired on Tuesday night in high school basketball action.

Brookhaven High

The Brookhaven High boys’ team (6-1) won their fifth game in a row on Tuesday night with a 72-45 trouncing of Franklin County in Meadville. Panther senior forward Lafollette Bogan led the BHS offense with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers (7-0) remained unbeaten with a huge 55-9 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

BHS travels to North Pike on Friday.

Brookhaven Academy

The Lady Cougars (5-1) took a 53-37 win over Copiah Academy on Tuesday night in Gallman. Senior forward Jana Case led the Lady Cougars with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman point guard Anne Brantley Warren added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Madison Moak chipped in seven points for BA.

In the boys’ game — playing without starting forwards Cade Brown and Dawson Flowers, who are with the MAIS Football All-Star teams in Jackson this week — the Cougars saw Copiah slip away with a 46-45 win. Tyler Fortenberry led the BA offense with 14 points and six rebounds.

Brookhaven Academy travels to Bowling Green on Saturday.

Loyd Star

Freshman point guard Aubrey Britt sparked the Lady Hornets (3-4) past Salem in a 57-16 blowout. Senior center Sarah Britt chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds for Loyd Star.

The Loyd Star boys also won big over Salem, taking a 60-36 road win. Senior guard Jett Calcote led the Hornet offense with 17 points, followed by Dane Smith with 12 points.

Loyd Star travels to North Pike tonight.

Wesson

The Wesson Lady Cobras (1-7) gave head coach Michellle Nunnery her first career victory with a thrilling 54-53 win over Jefferson County.

In the boys’ game, the Cobras (7-1) took a 61-42 win over Jefferson County in the Snake Pit. 

Wesson travels to West Lincoln on Friday.

Enterprise

The Enterprise Lady Jackets (2-3) won their second game in a row with a 43-38 win at Mize on Tuesday night. Senior Breyauna Johnson scored a game-high 20 points for the Lady Jackets.

In the boys’ game, it was all Mize, as the Bulldogs defeated Enterprise 66-38. Austin Fugler was the high scorer for Enterprise with 12 points.

Enterprise hosts Sacred Heart on Friday night.

Lawrence County

The North Pike Jaguars defeated the Lawrence County Cougars 59-43 Tuesday night in Summit. Coach Pat Bridges and his Cougars (2-4) got a team-high 12 points from senior post player K.D. Gordon in the loss.

The Lady Jaguars also held on for a tight 44-43 win over the Lady Cougars (2-4) in their matchup.

Lawrence County travels to Magee on Friday.
