Bears sweep Jackets; Lady Bobcats pound Amite Co.

Here is a look at how area high school basketball action unfolded on Tuesday night.

West Lincoln, Enterprise

West Lincoln swept a pair of region games from Enterprise on Tuesday night in Jack Case Gymnasium. In the girls’ game the Lady Bears (15-3, 2-0) roared to an 81-22 victory behind 21 points from Bailey Wilson. Skylar Hall chipped in 20 points and Megan Gerald added 16 for WL. Hannah Jergins scored a team high seven points for the Lady Yellowjackets (6-10, 1-2).

In the boys’ game the Bears (11-7, 2-0) cruised to a 67-25 win over Enterprise. Senior guard Garrison Coffey scored 17 points to lead the Bears and junior guard Anthony “Peanut” Hughes chipped in 15 points. Hib Johnson led Jacket offense with six points (4-12, 0-3).

West Lincoln hosts Loyd Star and Enterprise visits Bogue Chitto on Friday.

Bogue Chitto

The Lady Bobcats (14-6, 2-0) crushed the Amite County Lady Trojans in Liberty by a final of 45-17 on Tuesday night. Kamilah Clay scored 12 points and Karly Leake added 11 points for BC. In the boys’ game the Trojans held off the Bobcats (4-16, 0-2) by a final of 55-40.

Brookhaven Academy

The Cougars traveled to Jasper County on Tuesday and returned with a pair of wins after sweeping the Sylva-Bay Academy Saints. The Lady Cougars (15-5) won 47-27 and were led by 14 points from freshman Emily Claire Felder. Senior Jana Case chipped in 12 points and freshman Anne Brantley Warren scored seven points. Makayla Martin added eight rebounds and four steals.

In the guys’ game the Cougars (17-3) were paced by a 29 point, 10 rebound, and five assist effort from Cade Brown. Fellow senior forward Dawson Flowers also stuffed the stat line with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. Tanner Thurman tossed in 14 points and Sean Beard added nine points.

BA has another pair of district games on Friday when they travel to face Newton Academy.

Lawrence County

The Cougars continue to tear through their Region 7-4A schedule after picking up a road sweep of Sumrall on Tuesday night. In the girls’ game LC kept their division record perfect as the Lady Cougars (12-6, 4-0) put together a 38-30 win over the Lady Bobcats. In the boys’ game the Cougars (8-10, 3-1) won their third straight region game by a final of 62-46.

On Friday the Cougars make a trip to Leakesville for region games against Greene County. Earlier this season the Lady Cougars beat Greene County 48-24 in Monticello while the LC boys lost a close 37-35 game to the Wildcats.
