Funeral services for Edna Powell Sones, of Brookhaven, were held Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial at Sones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Carriere, at 4 p.m. Riverwood Family Funeral in Brookhaven was in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Mrs. Sones died Friday, Jan, 25, 2019. She was affectionately known to all who knew her as Nana. She was born Dec. 8, 1928, to Tommie Powell and Rosabelle Marshall Fletcher. After spending over 35 years raising their family in Eupora, she and her husband U.G. moved to be near their family in Brookhaven. She opened Sones Interiors and used her decorating talent to enrich the homes and lives of many people. She and her husband became beloved members serving the Lord at First Baptist Church faithfully. Later, she and U.G. became the managers of the Inez Hotel Apartments for almost 20 years, blessing and serving the many residents who lived there. At the age of 80, upon her retirement, she told her son Bill, “I never thought that I would retire this early!” She had a can-do spirit and never wanted to slow down. She will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her husband, her family and friends, her church and her community.
