Here is a look at how area teams faired in high school basketball action Tuesday night.

Brookhaven High

The Brookhaven Panthers swept their final Region 6-5A doubleheader of the season with a pair of wins over Wingfield in Sinclair Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (23-1, 6-0) finished with a perfect region record for the second consecutive season after defeating the Lady Falcons 78-56. Leading 13-10 after the first quarter, coach Preston Wilson and his team took command after outscoring Wingfield 25-15 in the second quarter. BHS will play Natchez in the opening round of the region tournament next week at Wingfield.

In the boys’ game the Panthers (19-5, 4-2) secured second place in the region standings with a 57-53 win over Wingfield. The Falcons had defeated BHS 77-75 on Jan. 18 when the teams first met. There will be a third game between the two as Wingfield finished third in the division and will be the opening round opponent next week for BHS at the region tournament.

Brookhaven concludes their regular season Friday with a Senior Night home matchup with Vicksburg.

Wesson

Wesson wrapped up Region 8-3A play with a sweep of West Marion on Tuesday night in the Snake Pit.

In the girls’ game the Lady Cobras (2-25, 1-9) picked up their first region win of the season with a 48-46 victory over the Lady Trojans. In the boys’ game the Cobras (19-8, 4-6) won their second straight division game with an 80-42 pounding of West Marion.

Wesson will host the region tournament next week. The Lady Cobras will take on Columbia Tuesday while the boys’ team faces a Jefferson Davis County team that they split with this season.

Lawrence County

Region 7-4A concluded on Tuesday night for the Cougars with a sweep of Purvis. With their 39-26 win the Lady Cougars (18-7, 9-1) won their sixth straight game since suffering a one-point defeat to Greene County. The Cougars (13-12, 8-2) are the second seed on their side of the division behind Forest County AHS. On Tuesday LC had no problem as they whipped Purvis 58-28.

Lawrence County closes the regular season Friday as they host Wesson.
