Lady Bobcats are powerlifting champs

The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats recently won the region powerlifting championship by outpointing West Lincoln and Lumberton in the title meet.

Bogue Chitto grabbed 47 points and was followed by West Lincoln with 36 points and Lumberton with seven.

Bogie Chitto athletes finishing in first place were Tiffanie Thames, Cassidy Donaho, Angel Bates, Akebia Lacking, Molly Blackwell and Madison Keeton.

First place finishers for West Lincoln included Madelyn Spring, Averi Paden and Kelsey Freeman.

At 148-pounds, Paden of West Lincoln squatted 200 pounds and deadlifted 220. Keeton of Bogue Chitto competed in the 242 and up class and deadlifted 245 pounds while benching 105.

“I’m proud of the girls’ efforts,” said Bogue Chitto coach Chad Norton. “They’ve been working hard in the weight room and were looking forward to showing off those efforts at the meet.”

The win was a second straight region title for the Lady Bobcats.

Bridgette Carlisle finished in second place in her division for Bogue Chitto. Bailee Goodson, Katherine Gifford and Sandra Leggett were second place finishers for West Lincoln.

The south state meet will be held at Bogue Chitto on March 7 with lifting beginning at 4 p.m.
