Brookhaven Academy has much to be proud of. The Cougars won another MAIS AA State Championship Saturday, their second in as many years.

BA  beat the Marshall Academy Patriots 37-31 at Benton Academy for the repeat. The team went on to compete in the Overall State Tournament this week with a 32-4 record.

A state championship in any sport, any classification, is difficult. To win that many games and only lose three is something special. The players, coaches, parents, grandparents, student body and the rest of the school can hold their heads high.

“Everybody did their job,” coach Josh Watts said after the game. “Britton (Nelson) stepped up and made some big plays at the end. Dawson (Flowers) and Cade (Brown) did a great job of playing smart after they got in foul trouble. For a freshman, Tyler (Fortenberry) was fearless in the biggest game he’s ever played in.”

It was truly a team effort from the Cougars, who outplayed Marshall with sheer size at times.

We congratulate the team on this accomplishment.
