Brookhaven School District conducts annual survey

Published 9:15 pm Tuesday, March 5, 2019

The Brookhaven School District is seeking opinions and ideas from parents and community members as part of its 2019 Comprehensive Needs Assessment.

The district will compile the results of the survey into a report that also analyzes test score trends and other school success measures, according to a statement on the district’s website.

The report will be used for strategic planning, administering federal programs that require an annual comprehensive needs assessment, and examining current school and district practices.

“The questions assess the status of the district in areas like family and community outreach, curriculum and instruction, and school facilities and organization,” according to a statement from the district.

The survey is also for faculty, staff and students.

The survey is available online on the district website at http://educationresources-llc.com/CNA/2019Brookhaven/2019Brookhaven.html  or in paper format at the district central office.

It asks questions about tutoring services, school nurses, parent center liaisons, drug education efforts, school safety, curriculum, instruction, citizenship, community engagement, substance abuse and other topics.

“The community is only as good as its education system,” Rob McCreary, director of federal programs for Brookhaven schools, said previously about the survey. “We want to make our public school system better. So, we want to hear from all of our community’s stakeholders.”

“People can talk about things, but, if they never do things like surveys, then we don’t know what we’re doing good or what we’re doing bad. With this, we have the chance to improve or keep doing what we’re doing,” Lipsey School Principal Rita Robinson said previously.
