Exchange Club readies for fling

The Exchange Club of Brookhaven is gearing up for its annual spring fling, though members say Mother Nature disagrees.

“With the weather we’ve had the last two days, I don’t know,” said President Steve Smith.

The fling — similar to the Exchange Club end-of-summer fair — will be Thursday through Saturday from 6-10 p.m. at Exchange Club Park. Admission and parking is free. Armbands for unlimited rides are $10 each night.

The weather looks good, though a bit chilly for Thursday and Friday, with temps dipping into the mid- to high-50s late, but Saturday could see some rain. The National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts 70 percent chance of rain with a low in the mid-50s. But Smith said the rain could be over by the time the rides start rolling.

“If it’s gone by 6 we will be running,” he said.

Smith said they won’t reschedule if it’s canceled because of rain.

The spring fling started five years ago to usher in the season and spring break.

“It’s a thing we like to do for the youth in our community to give them something to do to kick off spring break,” he said.

Members of the Exchange Club run the rides and are in charge of the Midway Kitchen and the pavilion food booth. Organizations, churches and schools come in to help serve and they’re in charge of games and activities to give them an opportunity to raise money for their group.
