Lady Panthers hosting tourney Saturday

The forecast is hopeful for softball Saturday as coach Mandy Vinson and her Brookhaven High Lady Panthers host their annual Ole Brook Invitational Tournament.

The schedule begins at 9 a.m. with the host Lady Panthers (2-3-1) playing 6A Warren Central. The Lady Panthers whipped WC 12-2 Feb. 25 in their season opener.

BHS was originally supposed to play Feb. 22-23 in a season-opening classic hosted by Warren Central, but that event was rained out — as was a game against Vicksburg as BHS and every other team in the area has battled the elements more than they’ve battled on-field competition thus far this season.

At 10:40 a.m. the Lawrence County Lady Cougars (4-1) take on Warren Central (3-6). Coach Marc Howard and his team are 2-0 in Region 7-4A play with 10 run wins over Forrest County AHS and Greene County.

At 12:20 p.m. the Loyd Star Lady Hornets (5-3) take on the 6A Pearl Lady Pirates (7-3). The Lady Pirates have a pair of wins thus far this season over Brookhaven High and losses to Madison Central, Germantown and Lawrence County.

Lawrence County and Pearl will matchup for the second time this season at 2 p.m. Last week at the LC tournament the Lady Cougars took a 5-1 win over Pearl.

The finale is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. and will see the host Lady Panthers playing Loyd Star.
