Support local Relay for Life event

A world with less cancer and more birthdays is the goal of the American Cancer Society,  a group that benefits from the thousands of Relay for Life events across the nation.

Since the first event in 1985, Relay For Life has raised billions. That money has been used for cancer research and several programs that aid cancer patients and their families.

Lincoln and Copiah counties will add to the fundraising total when the local Relay event takes place April 5. Cancer survivors can register for the free banquet online at www.relayforlife.org to be guaranteed a shirt size. Registration will also be available at the Lincoln Civic Center multi-purpose building at 5:30 p.m. the day of the event.

While the money raised at these events is certainly important, just as valuable is the support and encouragement cancer patients and cancer survivors receive. There are countless hugs given and enough promises of prayer to last most folks a lifetime.

And that’s what makes these events so special — they bring communities together for a common cause. They also unite cancer survivors and patients in a unique way.  Survivors and patients can share the ups and downs of life with the disease, and can offer each other the kind of encouragement that only someone who’s had the disease can.

Lincoln County’s event will be at the Lincoln Civic Center covered arena. It will feature plenty of food, games and activities. We encourage everyone to attend and support the Relay effort. Without the financial support of people just like you, Relay for Life won’t be a success. For more information about the event, visit www.relayforlife.org.
