Panthers lose at Oak Grove; Bears blast Amite County once again

Here is a look at how area schools fared on Thursday in high school baseball action.
Brookhaven High
The Brookhaven High Panthers (4-6) took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday night before the home team Oak Grove Warriors (10-3) exploded for 10 runs in the frame to take a 15-6 victory.
Dylan Reeves and Lane Smith had a double apiece for coach Matt White and his team. Jacob Porter, Jacob Smith and Gatson Walker all also hit safely for the Panthers. BHS is back in the Pine Belt today for a 1 p.m. matchup with Petal.
West Lincoln
For the second time this week, the West Lincoln Bears (3-4) smashed the Amite County Trojans (0-9). After beating AC 13-1 on Tuesday the Bears took a 16-1 win in Liberty Thursday.
Freshman Brady Ratcliff picked up the pitching win that put WL 2-0 in Region 7-2A play. Grant Jackson and Travis Hall had two hits apiece for coach David Gilbert. One of Hall’s hits was a triple. Garret Maxwell had three RBIs for the green and white and Ratcliff helped his cause with two runs batted in. Gavin Burris also had an RBI for WL.
Wesson
For the second time this week the Wesson Cobras (6-6) dropped a close divisional game to West Marion (9-5) after the Trojans held on for a 4-1 victory Thursday night.
Tuesday West Marion won 4-3 by outhitting the Cobras 8-6. Thursday night the Trojans scored all four runs in the first inning and allowed the single Cobra score in the top of the third.
WM pitcher Jayden Duncan struck out 10 in the win. Kenner Bizot took the loss after striking out six and giving up three earned runs on five hits.
Aarron Mooney led the WAC offense with a double and Bizot chipped in an RBI. Jim Guess, Slay Acy, Derek Freeman and Cade Lowery all hit safely for coach Seth Lofton.
Wesson plays Terry High in Hinds County today at 11 a.m. and then takes on Murrah at Terry at 1:30 p.m.
