New York man charged in Mississippi car chase; $98K seized
Authorities say nearly $99,000 of cash have been seized from a New York man arrested in Mississippi after a high-speed chase.
News outlets report that deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi arrested 26-year-old Michael Nave Vega. The New York City resident is charged with felony fleeing, disorderly conduct and several traffic violations.
WDAM-TV quotes Sheriff Berkley Hall as saying the chase on Thursday had started after callers reported a reckless driver speeding and ignoring stop lights. He says Vega jumped out of the vehicle and ran away but was apprehended shortly after.
Hall says investigators believe the stacks of cash they took were used in illegal drug activity.
Vega’s bond was set at $11,000. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment
