Panther lifters preparing for 5A state meet

Five members of the Brookhaven High power lifting team are preparing for the April 13 5A State Meet at the Mississippi Coliseum. They qualified after finishing in the top three in their weight classes at the South State Meet hosted by Gautier.

The nine man Brookhaven High team finished second at South State.

“I’m very proud of all the guys we took to Gautier,” said BHS coach Russ Britt. “They’ve worked hard all year and I’m excited to see what our qualifiers will do at state.”

Junior LaDarius May won the 148-pound division with a personal record 990 pounds lifted. Seventh grader Deon Jones finished third in the 114-pound division, senior Jariq Motley finished third in the 165-pound class, senior Terrance Mason finished third in the 275-pound division, S]sophomore Jamar Lewis finished second in the 308-pound division, and senior Xzaveiyon Bates was third in the 308-plus class.
