Brookhaven was named a “Healthy Hometown” in 2013 and the “Healthiest Hometown” in 2014, but there is always room for improvement.

Paul Lacoste, Mississippi’s best known trainer, plans to help Brookhaven get into better shape with his Next Level Mississippi 2010 program.

The “bootcamp” program will start May 20 and finish Aug. 8. Training sessions are four days per week at KDMC Fitness, from 5-6 a.m. or 6-7 a.m. Based on Lacoste’s website and those who sing his praises on social media, the sessions will be a challenge.

The program is free (thanks to state funding), but the commitment needed isn’t to be taken lightly. Participants are required to submit a $20 “accountability” payment. The check will not be cashed unless a participant drops out before the program is complete. Participants are also not allowed to miss more than six training sessions.

“Obesity is something that’s hitting us all. It doesn’t matter — man, woman or child. Doesn’t matter where you come from, your background, it’s affecting us all and it’s such a big national financial issue, and state financial issue,” Lacoste told the media.

Lacoste’s program aims to tackle obesity around the state. He is hosting the same training sessions in Greenville and Pascagoula.

Lacoste, a former Mississippi State linebacker, knows a thing or two about fitness. He launched a program in 2010 to get statewide elected officials in shape. That first year, more than 100 legislators lost more than 1,400 pounds.

Brookhaven and Lincoln County are fortunate to have access to this program at no cost. If you could stand to lose a few pounds and need motivation from a guy who looks like a superhero, this program is for you. For more information, visit www.paullacoste.com.
