With his schedule filling up fast, the Easter Bunny turned to the Girl Scouts of Troop 172 in Enterprise to help him with a special project for parents in Lincoln County.

The troop will “Egg Your Yard” this weekend — with plastic candy-filled eggs. For a fee, they’ll scatter eggs through the yard upon request so the little ones can wake up to a big surprise, said Girl Scout leader Randi Laird.

It’s $20 for two dozen or $35 for four dozen. For an extra $5 the Scouts will hide the eggs instead.

The Scouts this week are filling hundreds of pastel-colored eggs with non-melting candy to be ready for Easter weekend.

Parents can choose Friday night or Saturday night to have the eggs scattered or hidden, she said. The troop will deliver to Brookhaven, Ruth, Bogue Chitto and the surrounding areas toward Wesson and Monticello.

Laird said the Scouts will be the ones in charge of “egging” the yards, with a parent overseeing the process.

“We try to let the girls do as much as possible. The more things they can be hands-on with the better,” Laird said.

This is the first time Troop 172 is hiding eggs to earn money for their group. They use money earned from the sale of trefoils and thin mints to fund their troop, but the money from this fundraiser will be used for a special trip for the six oldest girls, she said.

Laird started the troop years ago when they moved to the area and there are currently 17 girls ranging from kindergarten to ninth-grade. This is probably the last year for the older girls, so she wants to treat them to a special going-away field trip and didn’t want to use cookie money for that.

“We’re trying to earn money to do something big and fun to end those girls’ run with us,” she said.
