Panthers sweep 6-5A Track and Field

The Brookhaven High School Panthers cruised to the girls’ and boys’ championships in the Division 6-5A Track Meet on Hughes Field April 12. Coach Darion Dorsey and his team are back in action Tuesday in the Region 3-5A Meet at Hughes Field.

In the division meet, the BHS boys got first place finishes from Jaquarius Edwards (100-meter), Grayson Childress (1,600-meter), Sam Arnold (3,200-meter), Dontrae Smith (110-meter hurdles), Quintaye Bates (high jump), Isaiah Wall (long jump, triple jump), Norman Woodard (pole vault) and Rod Dillon (shot put). The Panthers also won the 4 x 100 relay.

Don Blandon finished second in the 100-meter race and Davion Smith came in third. Smith also finished second in the 200-meter race. Britt was second in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races. Childress finished third in the 3,200-meter race.

Woodard was second in the 110-meter hurdles and Bates finished third. Jariq Motley finished second in the 300-meter hurdles. Wall was second in the high jump and Quintaye Bates finished second in the triple jump. Javonte Stewart finished second in the pole vault and Travon Lee was second in discus. Zerian Hudson finished second in shot put and the Panther relay teams were second in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 races. The Panthers were third in the 4 x 800 relay race.

The Lady Panthers were just as dominant in their races and events. BHS first place finishers included Kyja Willis (100-meter), Genesis Frazier (200-meter), Tiyuna Harris (400-meter), Miyah Miller (800-meter, 1,600-meter), Bailey Pounds (3,200 meter), Kayle Levi (100-meter hurdles), Ayanna McNairy (long jump, triple jump), Kortne Nelson (pole vault), and Ah’Menya Rancifer (discus, shot put).

The Lady Panthers also won the 4 x 100 relay, 4 x 200 relay, 4 x 400 relay, and 4 x 800 relays.

Frazier finished second in the 100-meter race and Aniya Cook came in third. Kayle Levi was second in the 200-meter race and Kaylon Levi finished third. Ellie Slay was second in the 800 and 1,600-meter races. Pounds was third in the 1,600-meter race and Carley Craig finished second in the 3,200-meter while Emamaline Wolfe was third in the same race. Zakarria Hill was third in the 300-meter Hurdles and Miracle Mobley finished third in the high jump. Willis was second in the long jump and Jakiyah Pendleton finished third. Hill was second in the triple jump. Maddie Brabham was third in the discus for BHS.
