A weak tornado was confirmed in Lincoln County as part of the outbreak last week that resulted in at least 30 twisters across the state.

The National Weather Service reported an EF-0 tornado in the southeast part of the county, near Ruth. It had peak winds of 85 mph. NWS said Tuesday that the tornado began south of Fox Road and west of Elm Lane. It was a maximum of 200 yards wide with a track of .65 miles.

Emergency Management Coordinator Clifford Galey said damage of a barn was reported near Pleasant Hill and Elm. No injuries were reported.

The severe weather outbreak resulted in three deaths last week, including one in Lincoln County.

Freddie Mobley, 63, was helping cut a tree that had fallen onto a house in the 1300 block of Old Hwy. 51 during strong storms that roared across the South Thursday, said Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.

Mobley made a few cuts into the tree then backed away. The trunk then rolled before Mobley could move, said Deputy Coroner Ricky Alford. The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Galey also reported damage from strong winds throughout the city and county and “a little bit” of flooding in the areas that normally flood in heavy rains.
