Funeral services for Dr. Della Rose Posey of Jackson, Mississippi, formerly of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, will be Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Union M.B. Church in Bogue Chitto. Burial will follow in New Zion-Norfield Cemetery in Bogue Chitto. Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dr. Posey, 63, died Saturday, April 27, 2019, at her residence. She was born Jan. 20, 1956, in McComb, Mississippi, to James Posey and Lillie McMorris Jackson. Her stepfather was Rev. J.W. Jackson.

She graduated from Bogue Chitto High School in 1973 as salutatorian. She earned a bachelors of science degree in business education at the Mississippi University for Women, in Columbus, in 1977; a master of science degree in business in 1978; a Ph.D. in education in 1984 at the University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg; and a Ed.S. in counseling with psychometry licensure at Jackson State University in 2012.

She retired from working at Jackson State University after 24 years of service. She was a member of New Zion M.B. Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by goddaughter, Reba Phillips and husband Lamarcus, of Columbus, Mississippi; godson, James Granderson and wife Brittany, of Columbus; nieces, Candace Braxton of Southaven, and LaToya Braxton of Jackson; cousin/brother, Ronald McMorris and wife Patricia, of Vicksburg; and cousin/sister, Lisa Tolliver and husband of Willie, of Tylertown.
