Firefighters from the Brookhaven Fire Department douse the “fine sand” in a silo following an explosion Thursday morning at the M&M Milling plant at 1056 Fender Trail NE. Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey said no one was injured in the explosion, which occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The plant in Brookhaven makes wood products and items for the animal feed industry. Representatives from Brookhaven Police Department, MEMA, MDEQ and Lincoln County Emergency Management joined Brookhaven Fire Department at the scene.

BPD Sgt. Jonathan Alford used the department’s newly-purchased drone with its FLIR camera to show areas of the silo that were still emitting heat, which was helpful for firefighters, Fire Chief Tony Weeks said. The cause of the explosion is undetermined.
