(AP) — A teenager is accused of fatally shooting a Mississippi family’s pet hogs.

The Picayune Item reports 18-year-old Conner Taylor has been arrested and charged with malicious killing of livestock. Owner Melinda Shaw says a family hog named Taz was found shot in the head in February. She says she and her son heard a gunshot late one night last week and checked on their remaining hog named Peanut, who they found shot in the head.

Shaw says the hogs were in their pen when they were killed. Pearl River County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Marc Ogden says both animals were shot at close range. Authorities haven’t released a motive, but Ogden called the shootings “senseless.” Taylor has since posted bail and been released. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
