(AP) — A Mississippi man is suing police officers who accused him of killing his girlfriend, alleging his civil rights were violated.

Greg Burroughs sued the city of Laurel and officers Michael Reeves and Josh Welch last month in federal court in Hattiesburg. He accuses the city of false imprisonment for 86 hours he was jailed without charges. Burroughs alleges investigators leaked false evidence to taint grand jury proceedings. He says Laurel didn’t properly supervise officers.

Jurors acquitted Burroughs of manslaughter in August. Katherine Sinclair was found dead in Burroughs’ garage in 2017. Prosecutors argued Sinclair feared Burroughs, both had quarreled, and some evidence suggested he’d staged the shooting. Burroughs says Sinclair shot herself.
