It’s unclear exactly what is going on in the community of Oma in Lawrence County, but if it does not stop someone is going to get hurt or killed.

Authorities there have responded to multiple shooting incidents that appear to be a continuation of an ongoing feud between families.

Two homes were struck by gunfire early Friday morning, Sheriff Lessie Butler said. One man reported his house on Monticello Road had been shot twice, but when deputies investigated about 1 a.m. Friday, they found at least five bullet holes.

The man’s son also reported that his home was a target. Butler said detectives counted at least 20 bullet holes in the exterior of the mobile home.

On Dec. 2 at 242 Mt. Olive Road, shots fired at a mobile home were reported and shell casings were found. That same day, a structure fire was reported at a house at 251 Mt. Olive Road. No one was home at the time of the fire and five shell casings were found there, Butler said.

That night, shots were reported at a home on Mildred Little Road less than a mile away.

And it happened again earlier this month, when someone fired at two houses and cars.

Miraculously, no one has been hurt, but it’s only a matter of time before a bullet finds its target.
