With summer on the horizon, Co-Lin has an array of summer camps to engage children in their interests, including a chance to learn drumming from a well-known musician from Monticello.

The following camps will be held on the college’s main campus in Wesson.

Art/Clay Camp

Art/Clay Camp will be held June 24-26, and will be from 10 a.m. to noon each day in the Sandifer Building.

The camp is geared toward ages 12-18. The cost is $35 per person, and this includes clay, glazes and firing.

Janet Smith will be leading the camp. Smith is an instructor in the art department at Co-Lin.

Drum Days Percussion Camp

Drum Days Percussion Camp will be held July 11-12, and will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The camp will take place in the Ewing Fine Arts Building.

The camp is geared toward upcoming ninth graders and up. The cost is $30 per person.

It will take place both inside and outside, and lunch will be provided.

The camp will feature drum set and marching percussion instruction from Buddy Gibbon, a Co-Lin alumni who has worked on projects with ESPN, NBC, Fox Sports, Super Bowl 52 and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“Because Co-Lin is the place to drum,” Austin said, “The opportunity to meet Buddy and work with him is phenomenal.”

Programming/Robotics Camp

Programming and Robotics Camp will be held June 19-21, and will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The camp will take place in the Dow Young Building, in room 121.

The camp is geared toward students ages 10-13. The cost is $70 per person, and this includes a T-shirt.

The camp will educate students on logic and the fundamentals of programming through the use of online gaming and robotics.

There are only 20 slots available, and the deadline to apply is June 19. Those who apply by Friday are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Robotics Camp will be held July 15-19, and will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The camp will take place at Wesson Attendance Center, located at 1048 Grove St. in Wesson.

The Wesson Bionic Cobras and the Co-Lin Seawolves are co-sponsors of the camp, which is geared toward students who have completed grades 4-8. The cost is $100 per person.

The camp will teach students how to build Lego Mindstorm NXT robots, program the robots on the computer and complete challenges by programming the robots to do a series of tasks.

Anderson said robotics has become a popular subject.

“These kids pick up on it very well and they love it,” Anderson said. “Robotics are our future.”

WOLF Pack Kids Rec Camp

WOLF Pack Kids Recreational Camp will be held June 17-19, and will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The camp will take place in Mullen Gymnasium.

The camp is geared toward students ages 6-10. The cost is $40 per person, and those who preregister by June 7 are guaranteed a backpack and water bottle.

Registration will run through the first day of camp. The camp provides age and developmentally appropriate, engaging instruction while participating in structured recreation activities.

Breakfast isn’t provided, so sending your child with a healthy snack is encouraged.

The camp is sponsored by Power of the Pack and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
