Police are investigating a death of a Brookhaven man as a homicide.

Vincent Garry, 22, was found dead in the 930 block of Crooked Lane Sunday afternoon, said Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins. Garry’s body was sent to the state crime lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

Collins said someone driving by saw a body off the road on the north side of the driveway of the old auction house just before 1 p.m. Sunday. An officer on the way to the scene spotted Garry’s car abandoned a few blocks away on Ozark Lane.

Garry’s mother had made a complaint of him missing earlier Sunday, Collins said.

“It’s not like him not to call his mother back and get back in touch with his mother, because he loved his mama. That’s her only child,” he said.

Lincoln County Deputy Coroner said Garry suffered blunt force trauma to his head, but a cause of death cannot be determined until the autopsy report is completed. Collins said authorities could not determine if a firearm or another weapon caused Garry’s injury.

Collins said Garry may not have been killed on Crooked Lane where he was found.

“It’s possible that he was dumped there. It’s still under investigation,” he said.

Collins is urging the public to come forward with any details that could lead to an arrest in the case.

“He leaves four kids behind, a grieving girlfriend and a mama that’s lost her only son,” he said.
