A former Brookhaven choir director will bring “A Little Night of Water Music” to Lincoln County.

The concert presented by the Lincoln County Choral Society will be directed by Jens Oliva. Oliva taught at Brookhaven High School.

Oliva and his wife started the organization four years ago and led the choir for a year before moving to Florida.

“I am so excited to work and sing with old friends and put on a concert for the community to enjoy,” Oliva said.

The concert will be held at First United Methodist Church on June 13 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Oliva chose the pieces for the concert.

To go along with the theme, songs featured are “Gather at the River,” “Banks of Doon,” “The Lake,” “The Water is Wide” and “Wade in the Water.”

Oliva picked the songs simply because he liked them. He’d chosen a water theme previously for one of his high school choirs.

“I liked it so I thought I’d do it again,” Oliva said.

Oliva taught at Brookhaven High School for six years. He was active in the community, as he also directed the choir at First United Methodist Church.

“We love finding any excuse to come back to Brookhaven,” Oliva said. “It’s gonna be nice to come back together and do this again.”

The Lincoln County Choral Society is just as excited as Oliva is.

“It should be a lot of fun to have Jens come back,” President Bob Naeger said. “He’s a great director and I’m looking forward to it.”

According to Naeger, the choir generally has 30 to 40 members in it. People come and go, and anyone is welcome.

“It becomes like family, and everyone becomes excited for the next concert,” Naeger said.

Choral members, accompanied by Steve Russell, will practice a week to prepare.
