Mavis Burris Cowart Young, 91, a resident of Smithdale, Mississippi,  passed away on June 22, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation was held Monday, June 24, 2019, from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. at the Concord Baptist Church in McCall Creek, Mississippi. Rev. Tony Mullins and Rev. Matt Emfinger officiated at the ceremony. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb was in charge of arrangements.

Mavis was born on July 25, 1927, in Franklin County, Mississippi, to the late William Henderson “Doc” Cowart Jr. and Ruby Ray Burris Cowart.

Mrs. Young graduated from Independence High School in Franklin County. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church a member of DAR and of the Franklin County Home Demonstration Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always busy at something genealogy, quilting or painting. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, L.G. Young; three sisters, Vernell Cowart Smith, Lourine Cowart McGehee and Lula Ellen Cowart; and brothers, Willie Ray Cowart and an infant brother.

She is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Gwyn H. Young and Velesta, Travis C. Young and Shellah, Keith Young and friend Frankie King and Terry B. Young and Vickie; seven grandchildren, Lane Young and wife Audrey, Jessica Hynum and husband Brandon, Nick Young, Dana Young, Sarah Young Ellis, Matthew Young, Daniel Young and wife Chelsea; seven great-grandchildren; along with other nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and two loving caregivers Trina Boyte and Tonya Hodges.

Pallbearers were Travis Young, Keith Young, Terry Young, Gwyn Young, Lane Young, Daniel Young, Matthew Young, Nick Young and Brandon Hynum.
