Food, fun rule Fourth on Storm

Several hundred people gathered on Storm Avenue Thursday afternoon for the neighborhood’s annual Fourth of July celebration. After a short patriotic program held on the porch of the recently-renovated Butterfield Mansion, attendees gathered for a parade down the avenue. The celebration included food, water slides, games, music, rides on a children’s train, bubbles and balloons. Above, Kim Jordan blows bubbles as her 5-year-old daughter Hayes waits to pop them. Below left, a group of teens and pre-teens make their way down Storm Avenue in the afternoon heat. Below right, Kenneth Wooten’s great-grandson Christopher Bordelon is all smiles as he sits with his great-grandfather and points to a balloon on the ceiling of the canopy tent where they watched the goings-on out of the sun’s rays.
