Brookhaven and Lincoln County will host dozens of teams — and hundreds of athletes, parents and family members — this week when the Dixie Youth Invitational World Series comes to town.

The Lincoln Civic Center Baseball Complex is host for the series this year, and officials expect more than 1,000 people to visit the ballparks and surrounding restaurants, gas stations, stores and hotels.

At least 40 teams from Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas will be playing in the tournament in the 6U coach pitch, 6U T-ball, 7U coach pitch, 9U and 11U Ozone age divisions.

“There won’t be a hotel room in McComb or Brookhaven, I can promise you, and the restaurants will be full,” said Dixie Youth State Director Tommy Rheams.

Rheams expects about 30 to 40 people or more per team to descend on Lincoln County for the four-day event.

Many families traveling for the games will likely arrive today to be in town before Thursday’s opening ceremonies. The teams will play ball Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And while there will be a lot of activity at the ballfields,  families will have time to explore the area.

That means Brookhaven and Lincoln County have an opportunity to make a great impression on people from as far away as Oklahoma. We encourage everyone to do their part to show visitors what makes this place special. Let’s show them the hospitality and generosity that the Home Seeker’s Paradise is known for.
