The A-Class, 10U, Mississippi Elite 2026 softball travel team completed their final season of 10U ball last week by winning the USSSA Gulf Coast Summer National Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was their 12th first-place finish in tournament play since September as the team finishes the season with a 87-17-3 record. Based on USSSA rules and points system, MSE 2026 finished as the No. 1 ranked 10U USSSA team in the entire nation. In fall 2018, the team won tournaments in Magee, Brandon, Oxford and Brookhaven. During the spring and summer stretch of their schedule they won tournaments in Brandon, Clinton, Magee, Gulfport, Vicksburg, Hattiesburg and Brookhaven. In the Magnolia Classic in Hattiesburg, MSE 2026 won in a 12U division that had them playing against older competition, with a bigger ball, and pitching from a greater distance than they usually do. Head coach Duane Burt is a native of Brookhaven. The team has players from Lincoln, Pike, Simpson, Harrison, Marion, Lamar and Lawrence Counties. Pictured after winning the USSSA National Tournament are Burt (far left), his daughter Layla (three to the right of her father, holding up her ring) and Molly Sistrunk (1) of Monticello (second from left on first row).
