Woman’s body found in Lincoln County, foul play suspected
Someone driving along Caseyville Road in northwest Lincoln County Saturday afternoon saw what appeared to be a body near the woods and called authorities.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said deputies responded to the 4:45 p.m. call and found a woman’s body about 10 to 15 yards from the road at the edge of the Homochitto National Forest, just inside the Lincoln County line. Rushing estimates the Jane Doe had been at the location for several days.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, crime lab officials and the county coroner’s office also responded to the scene. Rushing said the race and age of the woman could not be determined on site. The woman’s body was sent to the crime lab for autopsy.
Rushing said the woman’s cause of death could not be determined Saturday and her death is being treated as a homicide.
