Bears take 1st place in home XC meet

The West Lincoln varsity boys’ cross-country team ran well enough on their home track to take first place Saturday in a meet the Bears hosted on Running Bear Trails.

There were eight varsity teams running in the boys’ event with 82 total individual runners. The Bears finished with 38 points to beat 6A Northwest Rankin who finished with 53 points.

Sophomore Grayson Edwards of NWR won the individual title. Junior Tiller Castillo of West Lincoln finished second with a time of 19 minutes and eight seconds and was followed in third place by his sophomore teammate Alex Leake. Sophomore Chase Spring finished eighth for coach Greg Allen and the WL Bears.

Other West Lincoln runners included senior Ashtin Castillo, junior Dakota Spring, freshman Zachray Reed, freshman Connor Johnson, sophomore Eli Williams and junior Caleb Myers.

Senior Roberto Galindo from Loyd Star finished the race in 21:38 and was followed closely by teammate Leondre Dodds (21:38).

Sophomore Logan Hux (23:14) was the top finisher for Wesson. Other Wesson runners included freshman Lane Westrope, sophomore Brandon Gladon, sophomore Zack Woods, sophomore Coleman Bonds, freshman Sam Kirton and sophomore Brett Boutwell.

Junior Hib Johnson was the first finisher from Enterprise (24:37). Other EAC runners included junior Anthony Nations and junior Ben Ready.

In the girls’ race it was two-time defending 2A state champ Aubrey Britt flexing on the competition to take first place with a time of 20:57. Britt was two minutes ahead of her second-place competition, junior Skyler Ellis of Northwest Rankin.

NWR took the team competition as 67 individual runners completed the race. Freshman Shanna Moore and sophomore Wednesday Warren also represented the Lady Hornets in the race.

Sophomore Vivian McRee was the top Wesson finisher and was joined by teammates Tess Holley, Hannah Meredith and Olivia Clark.

Competitors for West Lincoln included sophomores Brooke Lewis and Camryn Summerall,

Running for Enterprise were Adelia Nations, Isbelle Ballard and Carmin Banks.

Carson Temple of WL finished seventh in the two-mile middle school run. Gunnar Smith was tenth for the Bears and Carter Coleman Britt finished 15th for Loyd Star.

Carter Reed Britt, Braxton Williams, Chandler Creel and Lawson Cook all competed for LS. Ryan Purdy and Carson Greer also ran for West Lincoln. Christian Martin and Ben McKenzie represented Wesson in the race.

Allie Rae Warren of Loyd Star was fifth in the middle school girls’ two-mile race. Ana King of West Lincoln finished in ninth place and her teammate Lasadria Stewart was 11th place. Other runners from WL included Alexis Johnson, Alaina Mathis, Lari Reed and Lydia Griffin. Avery Sellers also ran for the LS team.

Tiara Tronstad represented Wesson in the middle school girls’ race and was joined by teammates Raqueal Tronstad, Courtney Carr, Makenze Martin, Myrah Myers, Diamond Catchings, Larsen Carpenter and Taylor Watson.
