BHS and Britt come up 2nd at Madison meet

The Brookhaven High boys’ cross-country team finished in second place Saturday at the Madison Central Cross-Country Meet. The 4K race held on a course at Madison Middle School had 15 teams competing in the boys’ division with 185 individual runners.

Jacob Britt of BHS was second overall with a time of 12 minutes and 11.54 seconds. William Ayim of Ruston High (Louisiana) just edged Britt out with a time of 12:11.09. Ruston also took the team title.

Sophomore Grayson Childress of Brookhaven High finished fourth and his teammates Sam Arnold and Jake Thompson were sixth and seventh, respectively. Trey Knott (14:22) was the fifth finisher for BHS

In the girls’ varsity race the Lady Panthers finished a close third behind winners Pearl and runners-up Brandon. There were nine teams and 132 runners in their race.

Sophomore Ellie Slay finished ninth and her teammate Bailey Pounds finished 10th for BHS. Senior Carley Craig finished 13 for the Lady Panthers. Freshmen Quinn Boerner and Lily Gray rounded out the BHS top five finishers.

Robert Massengill (sixth place) and Jackson Hedgepath (eighth place) were the top two finishers for BHS in the two-mile middle school race.

Annabelle Summers (second place), Ella Thompson (fifth place) and Raney Scott (sixth place) were all top-10 finishers for BHS in the middle school girls’ race.
