The Jeff Davis Jaguars dominated the Lawrence County Cougars 40-6 in high school football action Friday night, in Bassfield.
Jeff Davis scored the first three times it had the football, jumping to a 21-0 lead before Lawrence County ever even got a first down. Jaguar quarterback Lyric Hall, making his first start of the season under center, threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns.
Hall, a senior, quarterbacked Jeff Davis County to a 3A state title as a sophomore only to move away to Tennessee his junior year. His recent return gave the Jaguars a huge offensive boost
Lawrence County’s offensive produced negative yardage in the first half, as the Cougars fell behind, 28-0. Lawrence County’s lone offensive highlight came with 1:09 left in the third quarter, when Kylan Cooper broke loose on a 74-yard touchdown run. That made it 34-6 but the Jaguars answered just two plays later, making it a 40-6 final.
Jeff Davis County, under coach Lance Mancuso, improved to 2-2 with the win. Jesse Anderson’s Cougars fell to 2-2 with the loss. Lawrence County will travel to 3A powerhouse Columbia this Friday.
