Truly Earl Smith

Funeral services for Mr. Truly Earl Smith will be on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Bro. Thomas Wicker and Bro. Bobby McKay will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Smith, 85, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, passed from this life on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on Nov. 17, 1933, in Union Church, Mississippi, to Truly D. Smith and Gertrude Covington Smith. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was self-employed as a cattle and crop farmer along with other business ventures. Mr. Smith enjoyed trail riding and was one of the founders and longtime board members of Horses For Handicapped. He was affectionately known to many of his friends and family as “Sonny.” He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Truly D. and Gertrude Smith; wife of 50 years Dixie Jean Wallace Smith; and sisters, Lorraine West, Thelma Smith and Doris Smith.
Survivors are his daughters, Tammi Joy Smith of Brookhaven and Robbi Kay Pickering and husband Barry of Brookhaven; grandson, Blake Pickering and wife Nicole; granddaughter Libbi Pickering Hobkirk; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Rustin Pickering, Caden and Heath Hobkirk ; brothers, Randall Dean Smith and wife Glenda; sister, Audra Coley; and a host of family and friends.
