Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Mae Brewer will be on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Pat Sullivan will officiate the service.

Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9 until 11 a.m.

Mrs. Brewer, 100, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at Silver Cross Nursing Home. She was born on Aug. 21, 1919, in Lincoln County, Mississippi, to Wayne Smith and Della Whittington Smith. She worked with the Navy Department at the Labor Board Civilian Personnel Office at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, during WWII. She was employed for some time at First Citizen’s Bank and Trust Co. in Richland, North Carolina.  She began work at State Bank and Trust Co. in Brookhaven in 1947 and was there over 24 years. She was a faithful member of Brookway Baptist Church and loved being outside working with flowers. Mrs. Etta Mae loved small animals and very much enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Eugene “Gene” Smith and James P. Brewer; her sister, Cleo Smith; her brothers, Hugh Smith Sr. and Troy Smith; and her nephew, Tommy Smith.

Survivors are her niece, Patricia Hamburger and husband Robert of Washington, D.C.; her nephews, Troy Melvin Smith of Brookhaven, Hugh Smith Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, John Smith and David Smith, both of Wesson; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all those that sat with and visited Mrs. Etta over her time in the Aspen and at Silver Cross including the nurses and staff.
