Panthers on the road at West Jones

The Brookhaven High Panthers (1-4) face an old familiar foe tonight when they open Region 5-5A play with a trip to Soso to play the West Jones Mustangs (4-0).
Both teams were idle last week as Brookhaven is coming off their first win of the season, a thrilling 21-19 victory over McComb.
West Jones looks to be their usual self as they’ve been especially stingy defensively.
George County and Quitman both scored two touchdowns against West Jones in their losses, 24-16 and 41-14 respectively. The Mustangs also trounced Northeast Jones 42-7 and whipped Wayne County 31-10 in their last time out.
WJ junior quarterback Alan Follis has thrown for 655 yards and eight scores through four games. Junior Tajrick Randolph is his favorite target as he’s caught 17 passes for 230 yards and four scores.
The always-fast Mustang defense has generated 12 turnovers with half coming on fumble recoveries and half on interceptions.
Last season the teams played a classic that coach Scott Pierson and his WJ team won 24-20 on King Field. The Mustangs made it to the 5A state title game where they were beaten 27-12 by the powerhouse that is West Point High.
Kickoff tonight in Jones County is at 7 p.m.
