Brookhaven police are investigating a shooting Thursday night on Crooked Lane that left two people dead, authorities said.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris identified the couple as 40-year-old Rebecca Rhodes and her husband, 44-year-old Shannon Rhodes.

Police Chief Kenneth Collins said officers responded to a domestic call at a home in the 1000 block of Crooked Lane at 9:10 p.m. He said the couple was found dead at the home in what appears to be a murder-suicide. Both had been shot with a handgun. The couple’s children were home at the time, but were not injured, he said.

Collins did not say if they witnessed the shootings.

“It was an argument. It was a domestic situation between husband and wife where both ended up dead,” he said. “I want the community to rally around these kids. It’s hard to lose both parents in one night.”

Collins said the incident is under investigation and he would not say which person fired the gun.

McMorris said the bodies were sent to the state Crime Lab in Jackson for autopsies.
