Leading 20-13 at halftime, the West Lincoln Bears (5-4, 2-1) came to life in the second half Friday night and rolled to a 47-27 win over the Loyd Star Hornets (2-7, 1-2) on W.E. “Sambo” Smith Field.
Loyd Star coach Brian Ford and his Hornets have been opening their passing offense up over the last few weeks behind the play of senior signal caller Stephen Mills. Mills tossed a 20-yard score to Jontorion Smith, a 15-yard TD pass to Payne Walker and a 37-yard score to Thomas Kelly.
As good as the LS aerial offense was, the WL ground game was better. Senior running back Michael Brothern scored three times in the first half. Brothern scored once from the 2-yard line, once from 10-yards out and then from 13-yards.
In the third quarter the Bears built their cushion behind a long Chris Freeman run, a 40-yard scoring dash by Enrico Price and two more Brothern TDs.
The Bears next meet up with Bogue Chitto while Loyd Star will face Wesson.
