Loyd Star’s Britt, West Lincoln’s Castillo are region champs

Loyd Star sophomore Aubrey Britt made the next step towards her third straight 2A cross-country title with a victory in the Region 7-2A meet last week at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Britt finished in a time of 20 minutes and eight seconds over the 5K course. Eighth grader Ana King (25:55) of West Lincoln was the third-place finisher in the region and her teammate eighth grader Lasadria Stewart (26:02) finished in fourth place while fellow eighth grader Ashland Watts (27:38) was the eighth finisher in the region and was followed in ninth place by her sophomore teammate Lari Reed (28:32). Sophomore Camryn Summerall (28:34) finished in 10th place for WL.

Also running for the Lady Bears were eighth grader Alexis Johnson, eighth grader Gentry Smith, eighth grader Alaina Mathis and sophomore Brooke Lewis.

As a team the Lady Bears finished second overall behind Wesson.

Sophomore Wednesday Warren competed for Loyd Star in the race while Enterprise was represented by eighth grader Isabelle Ballard, eighth grader Carmin Banks, eighth grader Adelia Nations and eighth grader Madison Kees.

In the boys’ race it was West Lincoln junior Tiler Castillo who took first overall with a. time of 18:13 to take top spot in the region. His sophomore teammate Chase Spring (18:46) finished in second place while WL sophomore Alex Leake (19:38) was the third-place finisher. West Lincoln senior Ashtin Castillo (20:17) finished in fourth place.

The Bears captured first place overall in the region as repeat champions after also winning the title last year.

Senior Roberto Galindo (21:04) was the fifth-place finisher in the region and his senior teammate Leondre Dodds (21:26) finished in eighth place.

Eighth grader Carson Temple of West Lincoln (21:10) was the sixth overall finisher and junior teammate Dakota Spring (22:21) finished in 10th place.

Junior Hib Johnson (21:34) of Enterprise rounded out the top-10 finishers from the area with a ninth-place finish.

Also running well at the middle school boys’ race last week were Carter Coleman Britt (eighth place) of Loyd Star and Carson Temple (ninth place) of West Lincoln.

Gunnar Smith, Ryan Purdy, Taylor Myers, Carson Greer, Edwin Edwards and Parker Campbell also represented West Lincoln at the middle school meet. Loyd Star was also represented at the same meet by Lawson Cook, Carter Reed Britt and Chandler Creel.

In the middle school girls’ race Ady Locke of Loyd Star finished in fifth place and her teammate Avery Sellers was the 10th-place finisher.

Lasadria Stewart (West Lincoln), Ana King (West Lincoln), Ashland Watts (West Lincoln), Ainsley Gennaro (Loyd Star), Allie Rae Warren (Loyd Star), Lari Reed (West Lincoln), Alexis Johnson (West Lincoln), Alaina Mathis (West Lincoln), Gentry Smith (West Lincoln) and Lydia Griffin (West Lincoln) all also competed in the middle school race.

The MHSAA 2A meet takes place Saturday in Clinton.
