Mrs. Ramona Townsend Rutland, 82, of Ruth, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, Mississippi. She was born April 19, 1937, in Brookhaven to James Kenneth Townsend and Jennie Ruth Greer Townsend.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Monticello, Mississippi, and will continue Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at Providence Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Providence and the graveside services will follow in Providence Cemetery. Bro. Will Wall and Bro. Scott Johnson will officiate the services with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a church that she loved very much. She was not only a homemaker, but the operator of the family farm for many years, where she loved her cows, the dairy and the beef cows. She loved her family which included anyone that came through her home.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Maxie and Shelia Hill (Matt); grandchildren, Mona Usher (Mike), Shannon Maxie (Dehna), Charra Coleman (Brad), Jenny Gomez (Antonio), and Lesli Hill; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Loretta Rutland (Gordon) and Nick Davis; her special family members, Vivian Rutland, Rex Rutland (Ruth), and Barbara Adair (Donald); a host of nieces and nephews that she treated like they were her own; and her sweet, special companion, Sassy.
Those preceding her in death were her husband of 56 years, Jerry E. Rutland; her parents; her son, Stephen Rutland; her brother, James Riley Townsend; her son-in-law, Milton “Pete” Maxie; her sister-in-law, Bettye Price; her brother-in-law, Smith Rutland; and her grandparents, Charlie and Lula Greer and Riley and Fannie Townsend.
