Plenty of positive stories to report

A crowd in the sanctuary at Easthaven Baptist Church Thursday joined similar groups around the nation for a minute of silence to remember the fallen military service members, the prisoners of war and those missing in action and to honor those who served and are serving now. “Our mission today, soldiers, is to remember the fallen, to honor those who serve and to teach our children the value of freedom,” said Terrance Turner, who organizes the annual Wreaths Across America wreath-passing ceremony. Turner is a Walmart Distribution Center transportation manager who served in the armed forces for six years.

Below is a quick look back at a few more good news stories:

• The final day of the Lincoln County junior high girls’ basketball tournament saw a new champion crowned as the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats won the title on their home court Thursday night with a 41-14 victory over Enterprise. In the boys’ contest, the Loyd Star Hornets won their second straight county title with a tough 39-37 win over the Bobcats on their home court.

• Blake Scafidel brought his “The Cure for Christmas Chaos Live!” show to Brookhaven last week.

• Raymond Richardson of Brookhaven, a retired U.S. postmaster, was honored recently for his more than 50 years of federal service.

• Hunters with heart are giving a portion of their bounty to help feed Lincoln Countians living below the poverty line.

Deer season is in full swing and the Mississippi Wildlife Federation’s Hunter’s Harvest Program has begun, allowing hunters to share their harvest with some of the state’s neediest families and children.

• Brookhaven Little Theatre’s production of “Disney’s Frozen Jr.” has showings Dec. 20-22.

“This performance, including intermission, will not exceed an hour and a half, so it’s great for families during the Christmas holidays,” Emily Waterloo said. “No. 1, it doesn’t take up your whole day, and No. 2, you can bring anyone of any age and have a great time.”

Show times are: Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.
