Supervisors Friday flipped through a docket of expenses for the last month’s expenses, picking out items that piqued their interest to gather more information.

Board President Eddie Brown, supervisor for District 4, stopped flipping when he got to AbilityWorks.

He wanted to know about a microwave purchase and looked to county administrator David Fields for an answer.

During renovations to the building, which the county owns, the microwave stopped working and wasn’t under warranty so it was replaced.

While they were discussing AbilityWorks, which is a rehabilitation program that provide vocational assessment, job training, and work experience for individuals with disabilities, Fields told supervisors that a handicapped-accessible door had been installed on the east end of the building, based on American Disabilities Act requirements. The front door had previously been ADA approved.

He also brought up a problem with the parking lot that is flooded after a heavy rain.

“It comes off down that hill and pools up in that parking lot,” Fields said. “When it’s raining heavy they have always had some water standing there for a while.”

District 3 Supervisor Nolan Williamson said that’s a problem all over the county.

“When it rains heavy, it’s going to stand everywhere,” Williamson said. “When it rains heavy, I’ve got problems everywhere. There’s not a pipe in this country, when it rains heavy, that will take the water.”

Though AbilityWorks at 934 Industrial Park Road Northeast is in the city limits, the county owns the building.

No action was taken at the meeting.

Non-elected positions

Chancery Clerk Alisha McGehee asked supervisors to vote on a few non-elected positions in the county that were overlooked Monday when supervisors approved a long list of employees for another year.

Friday, supervisors voted 4-0 to approve Brady Kellems as county prosecutor, and Quinn Jordan, Annie Johnson, Eric Ates and Gerri Miller as assistant receiving clerks for the Lincoln Civic Center. District 1 Supervisor Jerry Wilson was absent from the meeting.
