(AP) — A Tennessee man was sentenced Friday to 133 years in prison for killing a Mississippi girl and wounding four other people in a shooting at a park more than three years ago, prosecutors said.
A Shelby County judge sentenced 21-year-old Marcus Malone in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Alana Tello of Horn Lake, Mississippi. Malone was convicted of second-degree murder in November.
Malone fired into a group of teenagers at Zodiac Park during a fight on Nov. 1, 2016. Two groups of teens had met at the park to settle a prior argument.
Tello was shot in the back of her neck. She died at the park. Four others were wounded, including an 18-year-old man who was shot in the neck and back and left paralyzed.
Seventeen shell casings from Malone’s weapon were recovered at the scene.
“His first two shots were in the air, so people were running away as he shot at them from the back,” Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward said.
Malone also was convicted in November of five counts of attempted second-degree murder, 12 counts of aggravated assault and other charges.
