Flynn Berry picked out her dress weeks ago and her boogie shoes are ready and waiting.

The 5-year-old is looking forward to Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s annual father-daughter dance and she might even let her dad show off his moves.

But not much.

Last year, their first time to go to the Princess Ball, Flynn only asker her father, Nathan Berry, to dance a few times.

“The rest of the time, her and her little friends were up in the middle of everything dancing together,” he said.

The ninth annual Princess Ball, sponsored by the Co-Lin Band and Collette Alumni Chapter, will take place Feb. 8 for girls age 5 to 15.

The event is a fundraiser, said Anna Grider, assistant director of Foundation and Alumni Relations. Each princess who attends will receive a prize, a beaded bracelet.

Part of feeling like a princess is looking the part.

“She’s got her shoes and her dress all picked out and ready to go,” Berry said. “It’s good to let her feel special, to really get a chance to just single her out. It’s just a chance to take her and put her on a pedestal by herself, and make her feel special.”

At last year’s dance, several of the dads took their daughters on a dinner date as well, stopping for pizza before heading home.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.colin.edu/calendar/tickets-princess-ball-2020. Dress is formal. Tickets are $30 per couple and $10 for each additional child. Tickets cover refreshments and ballroom dance instructions, and professional photographs will be available for an additional fee.

The Princess Ball will be at the Thames Conference Center, split into two sessions. The first session will be from 4:30 until 6 p.m., and the second will be 6:30 until 8 p.m.

The Princess Ball serves as a fundraiser to help pay for scholarships for Colette students at Co-Lin. Grider said that in the past nine years, the ball has been well attended and has worked well as a fundraiser.

“It does raise a good amount of money,” Grider said. “It’s a very low cost event for us, but then it brings in a couple thousand.”
