Funeral services for Josie Ann Summers will be on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in the Bethshan Cemetery in Monticello, Mississippi. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, from 1 until 2 p.m.

Mrs. Summers, 86, of Brookhaven, passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, in Ooltewah, Tennessee.  She was born in Baker, Louisiana, on Dec. 17, 1933 to Eldred Day and Dessie King Day. She attended Louisiana State University and went on Asbury Seminary for a Masters of Religious Education.

Josie attended the Methodist Protestant Church and served as a missionary, teaching in an Indian Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico and also for five years in what is now Belize, Central America. Josie came to Brookhaven to teach at Whitworth College. She met M.L. Summers and they married in 1967, then they made their home in the Mt. Moriah community. 

Preceding her in death was her parents, Eldred and Dessie Day.

Josie is survived by her sister, Marlene Day Renfroe of Brandon, Mississippi; her stepchildren, Janet Summers Bentley and Larry of Princeton, Texas, and Randy Summers and Kathy of Harrison, Tennessee; grandchildren, Andrew Bentley and wife Sarah, William Bentley, Ruth Bentley and Elizabeth Bentley of Texas, Katie Rickard and husband, Phinehas, and Zachary Summers of Tennessee.  She also leaves behind a loving extended family and friends.
